1950s Tammis Keefe 'Samuel Colt' Handkerchief
Beautiful handmade vintage Fifties handkerchief by well-known textile and handkerchief designer of the 1950s, Tammis Keefe.
Long before Gloria Vanderbilt and her blue jeans, Keefe became one of the first women to sign her name conspicuously on her work and to achieve name recognition.
She was legendary in textile design for handkerchiefs. Her eye for color and design is still recognizable, and she has inspired hundreds of artists and designers. Her original work is as relevant now as it was then.
Before her death at age forty-six in 1960, Keefe produced approximately four hundred designs for handkerchiefs and at least one hundred for dishtowels, all featuring her trademarks of unexpected color and subtle wit.
Seen here is her American collection of handkerchiefs, this one specifically designed for commemorating Samuel Colt, an American inventor, industrialist, and businessman who established Colt's Patent Fire-Arms Manufacturing Company.
No condition issues, it does have some patina and small imperfections that are consistent with its use and age.
